Food Bank raises more than $1,900

Toronto, ON (September 16, 2006) The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), an independent agency of Daily Bread Food Bank, participated in the Queen West Art Crawl for the first time this weekend. Through a silent art auction and a donation jar, more than $1,900 was raised during the event. The much-needed donations will go towards the operations of the Food Bank.

"The Art Crawl was a natural fit for FYFB as many artists live well below the poverty line and use food bank services," said Abigail Payne, FYFB's fundraising committee chair. "We can't thank Artscape enough for the opportunity to participate in this event."

Art for the silent auction was generously donated by local artists Devi Arasanayagam, Dan Dubois, Vera Lytinsky and Jeff Pykerman.

FYFB's participation in the Queen West Art Crawl was made possible by Artscape, the organizers of the event, and Moveable Type, who provided wonderful vinyl banners.

Donations are still urgently needed and can be made in person at 797 Dundas Street West or online at (follow the links to

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
