Food Bank recognizes and thanks supporters

Toronto, ON (November 30, 2006) The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), an independent agency of Daily Bread Food Bank, held its annual Holiday Open House on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at its 797 Dundas Street West location.

"We open our doors once a year to formally welcome FYFB's many supporters and we were thrilled to see everyone who made it out," said Ravi Sreedharan, FYFB's president. "We had a lot to be thankful for this year and were pleased to be able to recognize our friends."

The evening event featured a door prize of dinner for two from local restaurant Il Fornello as well as the music of Michael Bérubé from his latest CD This is Christmas. FYFB's sales of the CD, with a portion going to the food bank, were brisk.

All guests enjoyed a traditional Pakistani dinner prepared by FYFB friend, Irshads Ahmed.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
