June 18 2007

Toronto, ON. The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), an independent agency of Daily Bread Food Bank, held its third annual, bowl-a-thon at Newtonbrook Bowlerama and more than $11,000 was raised during the event. The much-needed donations will go towards the program delivery at the Food Bank.

2007 bowlathon

"We all have so much fun at this great fundraising event," said event organizer, Marianne Gwon. "I can't thank everyone enough for working so hard to collect pledges. Our sponsors were fantastic again this year and we had draws for some great prizes."

Awards were handed out for top score (male and female), lowest score, youngest bowler and Fred Flintstone Bowl, an award for the bowler who most embodied Fred's spirit. A new award was added this year for the CLASP challenge. All told, the Osgoode Hall students who participated the challenge raised more than $2,000.

Sponsors of this year's bowl-a-thon included Cadillac Fairview, Dominion, Friends, Newtonbrook Bowlerama, Sherwood Copy, Sports Clubs of Canada, TD Financial Group, Tresses and Victoria Scholars Men's Choral Ensemble.

Donations are still urgently needed and can be made in person at 797 Dundas Street West or online at

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
