The Mabin School Donates Food

July 1 2007

FYFB thanks The Mabin School for donating extra food supplies from their inaugural "Mabin Cares" event that saw more than 350 students, parents, family members, faculty and staff come together for a day of community service.

Mabin Cares Co-Chair Linda Bronfman described the event as "a day of community service to build connections between the school, its families and charitable organizations in the community. We wanted to encourage families to do good work together."

A part of the Mabin Cares event saw the participants prepare sandwiches for a number of homeless shelters using food donated supplies. After a busy day of sandwich making, The Mabin School still had a large surplus of food supplies contributed by businesses including Kraft Foods, Bruno's Fine Foods, Cumbrae's, Upper Cut Market and Ace Bakery. That's when the call came from Mabin parent and FYFB friend David Angelo to donate the surplus supplies for FYFB's Community Kitchen and Food Programs.

"We really appreciate The Mabin School thinking of us and including us in this important event," said Ravi Sreedharan, FYFB's Board Chair. "The high quality of the food from Kraft Foods, Bruno's Fine Foods, Cumbrae's, Upper Cut Market and the Ace Bakery made a real difference in our Community Kitchen and Food Programs. It is quite rare for us to receive cheese, so our volunteers were quite excited to see it in our fridges. We thank everyone for this generous contribution"

"We're excited that the extra supplies found a good home at FYFB," said Linda. "It was an inspirational day for everyone and we hope this is the beginning of our relationship with FYFB."

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
