Raptor-ous" Christmas

Raptors Foundation Presents FYFB With Donation

The wives, girlfriends and relatives of the Toronto Raptors players set the pace off the court this past holiday season as the lead donor to Fort York Food Bank (FYFB)'s annual Holiday Fund Appeal when they presented a $5,000 cheque from the Raptors Foundation.

Adriane Mayes, Yolanda Baston, Tamara Moon and Robyn Dixon represented the Foundation in presenting the cheque to FYFB directors at centre court during the half-time celebrations at the Raptors game in December 2007.

"We were both surprised and delighted to be recognized by the Raptors Foundation with this fabulous gift," stated FYFB Board Chair Ravi Sreedharan. "The Raptors wives were touched by the work we do with families and especially the children of families. Many people do not realize the difficulties children face in downtown Toronto and we are grateful for the Raptors support of the work we do for children who live in poverty in our community."

The Raptors wives, girlfriends and relatives, along with the team's community development staff, organized two fundraisers including an online auction of Christmas gift baskets prepared by the players and their partners to support the work FYFB does in helping families and children in need in downtown Toronto.

Beth Robertson, Vice-President, Marketing for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and Executive Director of the Raptors Foundation recognized the many people in the Raptors organization that made the gift possible. "We're grateful for the contributions of our players, coaching staff, their wives and families. Without their ongoing support during the holiday season, we couldn't have raised such a significant amount of money. They are truly a great group of people who are committed and dedicated to giving back to the community." stated Robertson.

FYFB would like to extend a very special thank you to the Raptors families, the Raptors Foundation, Raptors Basketball Club and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment for their fantastic support of our Holiday Fund Appeal Campaign. In particular FYFB would like to acknowledge the special efforts of the following wives and staff members in making this gift possible:

The funding makes a difference in helping to meet the needs of families and children who live in poverty in our community. It also recognizes the contributions that FYFB makes to our community by a leading organization like the Raptors Foundation.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
