Ernst & Young Community Excellence Award

May 27 2008

FYFB founder and board chair Ravi Sreedharan received an Ernst & Young Community Excellence Award recognizing his outstanding charitable work with FYFB at an awards luncheon hosted by Ernst & Young Chairman and CEO Lou Pagnutti on May 27.

In presenting the Community Excellence Awards to Ravi and eight other Ernst & Young employees, Mr. Pagnutti stated, "At Ernst & Young, our success is built on great people with top talent and generous spirits. We encourage all our people to get involved in their communities. Their skills, knowledge and experience give them the power to change lives and make a positive impact. Ravi exemplifies community spirit, and his contributions to the community impressed everyone who reviewed his nomination for this award."

"Ravi's work with the Fort York Food Bank shows the tremendous difference we can make by reaching out and working with organizations in our communities," Mr. Pagnutti continued. "His involvement with the food bank sets a terrific example for others at the firm and for anyone who is thinking about volunteering. We're very proud of the difference Ravi is making in the lives of others."

The Ernst & Young community excellence awards program is now in its second year. This program honours employees across the country whose outstanding volunteer efforts demonstrate the firm's commitment to making a difference in the wider community. In addition to attending an exclusive lunch with Ernst & Young Chairman and CEO Lou Pagnutti, each of this year's nine award winners received $2,000 to donate to their chosen charity.

FYFB wants to thank Ravi Sreedharan for his leadership and selfless efforts to support people in need in downtown Toronto and Ernst & Young for recognizing Ravi and FYFB with this important award.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
