Students from the Regency Dental Hygiene Academy have been visiting FYFB to speak to clients for the past couple of years and their most recent visit was this month.

Regency Dental Hygiene students visit FYFB. October 2008.

Regency Dental Hygiene students have been providing about four educational health promotion sessions each year at FYFB. The sessions focus on basic oral hygiene home care procedures, the relationship between diet and oral health and diet and general health, since there is mounting evidence of the relationship between the two. The presentations promote Canada's Food Guide as well. The students are sensitive to the challenges of the clients at FYFB and learn in advance about the contents of the hampers to ensure their presentations are aligned and meaningful. They try to have some "give-aways" as well.

They also provide information on the dental hygiene clinical services offered by the school (located at Dundas and University) and other places where individuals can access other low cost dental care in Toronto. A full description of our program can be found on our website (

"We have really enjoyed our partnership with FYFB! I, too, believe it is helpful for your clients and a wonderful learning experience for our students. Client feedback has been great, and the staff at FYFB always very helpful and supportive," says Carolyn Kay, a faculty member at Regency Dental Hygiene Academy.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
