FYFB Selected As A Top Performing Charity by Charity IntelligenceToronto, ON. The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB) was recently named in Charity Intelligence's (Ci) new report, Homeless in Canada, as one of the top-performing charities in Canada.

"We're thrilled to be recognized by Ci," said Ravi Sreedharan, FYFB's president. "We're the frontline on preventing homelessness in Toronto with our programs and it's an honour to be a 'recommended charity'."

According to Ci, FYFB has an "extreme fundraising need" and the "very low administrative costs and fundraising costs indicate a focus on program delivery. And with fundraising costs at only 4%, donor funds have a very significant impact of the lives of people living in poverty in downtown Toronto.

Ci estimates FYFB's charity value to be $1,123,681, taking into account the revenue from donations ($110,476), value of volunteer time ($280,950) and donated goods and services ($732,255). With that FYFB distributes more than 270,000 meals through food hampers in a year; serves almost 40,000 plates of food from a tiny home-style kitchen; and, performs more than 2,200 counselling cases. Fully 25% of FYFB's value, as calculated by Ci, comes from volunteer service hours which keeps administrative costs at an astonishingly low 0.6 percent when measured against it's charity value.

Charity Intelligence helps funders to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of charities in a number of areas and homelessness has just been added as a category through this new report. FYFB has been recognized in the 'prevention' category along with partner Second Harvest and other food banks across Canada. There are currently just 31 other charities recommended by Charity Intelligence.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
