The Sweet Sound of Support

Recording artists Switchfoot perform and support Fort York Food Bank

March 1 2010

On Friday, February 1st recording artists Switchfoot performed in Toronto as part of their North American tour. The band was touring to support the recent release of their album "Hello Hurricane" and FYFB was selected as the food bank to attend their show.

In each city where the band performs they ask a local food bank to attend the event to collect donations. The band's loyal fan base is well aware of the band's good intentions.

FYFB Board member Luke Pollard and his son, Oliver, attended the show at the Phoenix Concert Hall in downtown Toronto with food bins and collection tins in hand. The fans were extremely supportive, some bringing food donations, but most handing over their cash in support of FYFB; in fact almost $400.00 was raised at the event.

Luke and Oliver talked to the band's videographer/photographer before the show and he reported the fans in most cities really show their support to the local charity of choice, so the experience in Toronto was no exception.

The band put on a great show and helped those in need in Toronto, so thanks to Switchfoot, we look forward to your next Toronto show!

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
