What's Happening @ FYFB
Are you ready to bowl? FYFB's Strike Out Hunger Bowlathon is scheduled for Thursday, June 18. It's a fun evening out that helps to fund our many programs. Round up friends to form a team of five, raise $100 each and you can do good for the community and have fun at the same time! You might even win a trophy!

The week of April 19 - 25 was National Volunteer Week. FYFB has amazing volunteers who spend, on average, 541 hours a week helping us to reconnect our clients with the community by running our programs. That's the equivalent of 14 full-time staff members and a whole lot of dedication!
In this issue we're pleased to profile Ken "The Cook" Lem. Ken is responsible for all the great food served in our community kitchen. In a typical month, that's 3,194 meals but in March that number rose to more than four thousand for the first time. Read all about Ken here.
On March 31 FYFB held its fourth annual TTC Blitz, with volunteers asking commuters at downtown subway stations to spare some change for the food bank. This is a great chance for volunteers to help connect FYFB with the larger downtown community and this year we were in a record 13 stations. Commuters were even more generous than in the past - donating more than $15,000.
FYFB Begins Decade Two and Passes $1 Million Mark
FYFB reached a major milestone to mark the beginning of its second decade - we've raised more than $1 million since opening our doors back in 1998. How can that be when we feed so many people each and every day? FYFB has an amazing relationship with Daily Bread Food Bank.
If you think of Daily Bread as the grocery store distribution centre or warehouse and FYFB as your local market, you can understand how vital their help is to our clients. With their donation of food, our annual budget is about $925,000 but our operating budget is only about $100,000 a year.
We're pleased to announce that we have received a $25,000 donation from the Sprott Foundation that has set us on the road to raising our next million. Thank you to the Sprott Foundation and Daily Bread Food Bank for making this meaningful gift possible.
Stay tuned to learn more about the difference the Sprott gift will make towards helping reconnect people with our community in our second decade.
Our friends at Ultra are raising funds for the FYFB on Monday, May 25 so mark your calendar to come out, have a drink and enjoy some good food. On Lobster Monsters at Ultra whole, fresh lobsters are $20. Ultra is located at 314 Queen Street West and reservations can be made at 416.263.0330 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
